In that case the problem would be some old code in the Tomcat 6
integration?

This can't be: this was done a while ago, and commons-el is no longer used. For some reason, it works for me fine in JBoss, BTW.

Should I hold off on putting commons-el back into the build?

Yes (but when I built it, commons-el is included, so I deleted it).

I'll create a new JBoss Web repository next week, based on the new Tomcat code, and AS should be able to use that.
